Default Adding heated front windshield, whats involved?

I have a few chips in my windshield and they had been sealed by the previous owner, but do to so some more "aggressive" driving the other night when pissed off... one has now cracked beyond its repair. I was wondering, how involved is upgrading to a heated package? I see that the two hookups are already present, but are they hooked up to anything? is there wiring to connect the dash button, or would the switch have to be wired to the bcm or some other computer to make it operational... and any other electronics? just curious as the replacement quote between heated and not wasnt that much more from the insurance co.

All the wiring is there. You need the windshield, the relay, the switch, and someone to program your BCU to know that the windshield is there.

Is the model year a 2000? If so, you won't need the BCM programmed. I have a 2000 and the dealer told me it's not needed. Just add the switch, relay and a heated windshield and your good to go. They told me it was from 2002 and up that the options need to be "turned on" thru the BCM. The only thing that stopped me from doing it is that heated windshield isn't cheap!

The BCU is the same. My 99 didn't have the heated windshield turned on in the BCU when I checked it with my hawkeye. Neither did my 03. When I added the heated windshield to the 03 when it was getting repaced for a crack, I had to turn it on.

Just going with what the dealer told me. They also said I could add the fog lights and switch. Haven't done that either so I don't know. The only "option" I've added was the switch pack for the heated seats.
