Tack on another $300 for auction fees and $50-200 for transport to wherever the buying dealer is and then another $50 to flip the title to the selling price of the vehicle. Then add recon, servicing, and profit.

What the seller is asking seems to be fair, private party-wise.

As for Southern California, the price in my opinion is still $3000 to $4000 too high, especially for a private party. (I realize that you are in the Seattle area) Buying from a dealer, will get you some recourse if you have problems and you may be able to negotiate an extended service contract as part of the purschase. Definitely get a pre-purchase inspection from a qualifed shop. Shop around, there are many nice examples of Discoverys around. Heck a So Cal truck my suit you well, no rust and in all likelyhood, has been a soccer mom vehicle and never been off-road. Good luck. Phil

I thought that the asking price was around $10,000. At $6,000, it is a fair price, maybe even a good price if much of the service had been done, ie head gaskets and the like. For point of reference, I recently looked at at 2004, asking price $6800, needed a little tlc and had a tick in the valve covers. A few months ago I looked at several 2004 trucks, all priced in the $7500 to $8500 range. Granted, certain parts of the country bring more money. I filled up today $3.15 a gallon for premium (even with oil tanking!) that too may be impacting the prices. I did make a quick trip to the salvage yards yesterday afternoon, one of the owners told me that they just can't get Discoverys right now. He said that there are only 6 coming up for auction in the next week (I think he was looking at the Car-Parts auction). He has been paying $1500 to $2500 for unrepairable wrecks! Frankly, that was a pleasant surprise. He said that he is getting $600 for complete D2 doors, asking $900 for trannys, (not too many motors available) the list goes on. It seems that there was a bubble due to the cash for clunkers and now things have slowed down. All the best, good hunting! Phil

I have access to all the salvage auctions nationwide and there are a lot more than 6 DII's available for sale. I'll gladly post them up if you want. (94 2000-2004 DII's on IAAI and 38 on COPART).

I paid $6k for my 03 DII HSE with 74k at Manheim but it came with the options that I wanted (5 passenger, ACE, SLS, tow pkg, cold weather pkg, and factory nav).

There is a 04 Disco HSE, green/tan, with 35k miles running this week at Manheim PA so it will be interesting to see what it goes for.
