Default advice on a D2 purchase

Hey everyone, new member to Land Rovers here. My last British vehicle was a Lotus Exige

I am very mechanically oriented and have been reading up on these forums, but I am new to Land Rovers specifically. I am considering buying a local Discovery II SE7, and would really appreciate any guidance on what to look for and what to inspect when I take a look at the vehicle this weekend.

I spoke to the owner and she says she has service history records for the car. It has about 111k on the clock, exterior paint and interior upholstery is in excellent shape, and has no driveability issues, warning lights, etc. She said the front sunroof is not working and one of the wheel hubs was replaced previously. She recalled the last "major" service was done at 90k.

Here is a link to the for sale listing: http://portland.craigslist.org/mlt/cto/1750615312.html

It seems decently priced, but do any of you notice anything that stands out or something that I should really look into when I go out there? I was thinking of taking a code scanner with me just to test it and see if there is anything the computer is storing.

Thank you very much!

Great looking truck. She is asking $3000 to $4000 too much. They are going for $5000 to $6500 down here with similar miles and in similar condition. Has she had a head gasket replacement and front driveshaft upgrade? If not, be sure to include those in your "to do" budget, especially the driveshaft upgrade ($200 to $300 if you have it done). Good luck. Phil

I'd look for one that already has the CDL in the transfer case if you are going off road.

The car looked good, pretty well taken care of, but does have some minor cosmetic issues. I scanned it and it seemed clear - but I used a generic OBDII code scanner rented from my local auto parts store. Any issue in doing that? If there were codes, would this scanner read them?

That 02 DII SE7 seems to be decently priced.

I stole my 03 for $6k at Manheim but that was because the fools there didn't know a low battery would disable the TCU and it was sold as-is inop.

I'll gladly post what those cars are going for at the dealer auctions if anyone wants to know.

Yes, I'd like to know. Please consider the Pac-NW region when posting auction prices, since things tend to depend on the area.

I'm in south TX and i got mine for $6700. Its an 03, great running condition. All i had to do was the front DS and i replaced O2. Other than that, the PO really took great care of the vehicle.

Just my 2 cents,
