Default After Market Computer

Ok, some weeks (months) ago I read a thread the referenced an after market computer/device that would improve the gas mileage of the Disco.

I have searched with no success. Anybody remember this?

Are you talking about the Volo chip?

Thanks Spike. That's the one.

With regards to the statement on their website:

Recommended modifications :
- K&N or equivalent non-restrictive intake

Is this a good idea?

Thanks,

RS

From what I've read, the K&N intake will bring an early death to the MAF.

So their computer chip does nothing? Just adding the K&N or other "non restrictive" air intake alone will increase your MPG by 1-2%.

agreed^... stay away from both IMO. what gas mileage are you getting now? what PSI do you have your tires set at? when was the last time you did an indutcion cleaning? had your o2s changed? etc...

And that was what I was concerned about.

My take on their K&N statement was that would also help further improve mileage in junction with their chip.

I thought i read that some guys were seeing 40-50 additional miles per tank with the chip alone.

I just replace one O2 sensor this weekend. Cleared the codes and she is running smooth again. I was averaging about 16 MPG before the 02 sensor went. 12 MPG after it went.

Tires are kept at 36-38 PSI.

Induction cleaning is in the near future.

Personally I dont believe in all of those "snake oil" MPG improver's and engine life additives and the like.
If that stuff actually worked then why doesn't it come standard?
Car companies get fines from the Fed's for exceeding the CAFE standard, they then add those fines into the price of the car.
If they can lower their fines they can lower their price and sell more units.
If a $50 computer chip could increase the cars MPG then why dont they use it?
