Default Aftermarker water temp gauge install (5/8NPT location)

I've scoured the forum and attempted to locate what I need without success. Perhaps my searching skills aren't up to par. Nonetheless, I'm seeking guidance regarding installing a mechanical water temperature gauge with a 5/8NPT thread hole on the engine block of my 2001 LR Disco 2. The gauge I purchased requires a 3/8 hole with a 5/8 NPT thread for the sensor. I've ordered the 'Universal Water Temp Temperature Joint Pipe Sensor Gauge Radiator Hose Adapter,' but unfortunately, it only accommodates a 1/8 NPT sensor. I've had no luck finding any adapters with a 5/8 NPT thread. While I understand I could purchase another water temp gauge, if i dont have to, i do not want to drill and tap 5/8 NPT for this sensor. I'd prefer to make use of what I already have rather than buying new gauges. Any pointer is greatly appreciated. TIA

Get the Extinct inline thermostat mod with the sensor port for temp sensor.

i think the Extinct inline is also a 1/8 or 1/4 NPT female. if some one can confirm this for me it would be great

I contemplated doing that on mine but ended up with the ultra-guage which shows a ton of information including water temp. Don't know if you've considered that or not but it's been worth it for me so far other then wishing it'd show oil pressure that is. Doing the inline thermostat replacement this weekend as long as the new hoses show up.

The Extinct kit from Inline thermostats does indeed come with a 1/4" NPT port and there is an optional adapter for 1/8" NPT sensors. 5/8" NPT is a HUGE pipe thread almost 1" diameter. Where are you going to thread the desired adapter in to? The block drain plugs are 1/8 NPT, so I guess you could put it there. Before the inline thermostat mods I would use a tee in the throttle body heater line to the tank and thread the sensor in to those. A quick google search did not turn up any 5/8 to 1/8, you might have to do it in a couple of steps like 5/8 to 1/2 and 1/2 to 3/8 and then 3/8 to 1/8

I deleted the throttle body heater lines and cut a thread into its outlet next to the stock temperature sensor. That's the closest you can get to measure coolant temperature in the block. It might not be the solution you are looking for, but keep it in mind when taking off the lower intake for other required service work in future.
