Default Alarm System

I recently bought a great 2001 Disco, and I love it. BUT, I've had a hard time getting used to the alarm system and the way it works. There have been a few times when I set it off inadvertently but could immediately turn the key and stop it. Not today though. Came home, turned it off and probably hit the alarm function on the key. Well, I can't start the darn thing and the alarm goes off if I put the key in the ignition. I've been pouring over the owner's manual, reset the alarm (four clicks) and that's no help.

Help! Suggestions!!!!

Use either your key in the door or your remote and slowly lock and unlock the door 3 times. Then go try and start your truck. That is the easy way to reset most alarm issues.

Thanks.

One more question before I try to start it ...and set off the alarm again (I think my neighbors already hate me right now). I slowly unlocked and locked the door three times. The alarm light went into its fast flashing mode and finally slowed down. Is that normal as well? Appreciate the help.

To end the story, here's what the problem was. The key had become detached from the key fob so when the key was put into the ignition, you couldn't communicate with the buttons. Couldn't tell because they were still solidly attached. It was not until a mechanic came out and tried that he broke the key off the fob trying to start the LR. Got back up key and fob and it worked fine.

Now, I have to replace a key fob!

Keep an eye on E-Bay, they usually have good prices of factory FOBs.
