Default Alternator removal and installation

I am trying to replace my alternator on an 01 Disco II. I removed the two 15mm locating bolts and 10mm bolt. There are dowels holding the alternator to the locating holes on the bracket. How do you get these out?

There are only 2 bolts with 2 nuts holding it to the bracket.
Remove the 2 nuts, slide the bolts out, remove the alt.

Those "dowels" are prob just the metal pieces that press into the alt when you tighten the bolts. Once you have those two bolts out you may have to pry the alt out of the mounting bracket.

If it has never come out before you will need to whack it with a mallet or use a pry bar after you remove all the bolts.

This. Pry bar + brute force = Alternator out. Broke some other stuff on the way out though. Collateral damage.

Careful when disconnecting/reconnecting the wires. Too much oomph and the lugs will break.

Ask me how I know...

Snapped the line on the negative wire. Shouldn't be too bad to get that back together.
