Default Any tips on refinishing the black plastic fender trim on an 02 Disco?

My Disco's fender trim has developed a very rough finish around the edges, so much so that I can't wipe it with a rag without leaving lots of the rag behind and leaving it looking worse than when I started. I thought about sanding it down with some fine grit sand paper (after taking it off the Disco, of course) and then treating it with forever black, or maybe even painting them black. Any other ideas that you've tried that has worked?

Thanks,

Sand it down with a fine grit, then you can use Krylon Fusion for plastic. I used it on my Jeep fender flares and it has done well in the Arizona sun without fading.

I used black shoe polish on mine and it turned out pretty good.

Thanks, I'll have to add that to my to do list. What grit sand paper do you recommend?

Yes, use some Kiwi liquid black shoe polish. It has the little sponge-applicator on the top. Put it on thick, and don't worry too much about getting any on the fender as it will wipe right off when you're done.

I did this about 5 months ago and they're still looking pretty good. I'll probably re-apply soon, just to make them look really good again, but it's something you only have to do about 3 times a year and it's CHEAP and EASY. I'm a big fan of cheap and easy, and it doesn't come often enough with Land Rovers!

Sand and paint,

Tape truck off and sand the rough spots down, clean real good and several coats of paint, I used SES Honda Flat Black and turned out perfect.

I have one at the office I will try and post for you Thursday. It shows how the fenders are just about the only black left! I took the fenders off the Jeep pretty easily, not sure how difficult they are to take off on a DII though.

cheap and easy is to use a mothers back to black product,,,

for a sense of satisfaction remove the trim, sand and paint.

the expensive way is to replace with new.

Paint it! I painted all of my bumper caps in satin Fusion paint and it has held up for years. I lightly sanded with 220 grit to even out the rock scrapes and scrubbed with westleys bleach white to get all of the grime off first. It looks great.
