I didn't do the work myself or have it performed but my 95 Disco I is sans cats. It runs fine and I have never had any trouble that i know of that was ever related back to their removal. Then again this is the only LR I have ever owned so I can't tell you if it has effected power, sound, etc., but as far as functionality mine is fine.

Didn't know it was against the law, does that mean the muffler shop that did the work is on the hook and not me? BREAKING THE LAW---BREAKING THE LAW, now i'm on the run! hehe

There is nothing worse then to deal with a smart *** kid who cares little for the law and does only what he wants.

I'm not sure you would gain any real advantage other than saving the cost of the cats. Maybe you can find some used. It may create some problems when inspection time comes and time to sell the vehicle.

I was forced to get rid of the cats on my 07 vette. Two sets of cats broke up inside and caused blown head gaskets. It could have been worse. High temps from running quite a bit of boost from the blower was likely causing it. We have a visual only inspection here. Simply cutting them at the factory welds and running pipe through them did the trick. I don't see how this is possible on the disco. I don't think you could get them to look stock again. I also would guess that you may throw codes from the 02 sensors.

If you were to remain "legit", I suppose that aftermarket cats are illegal also according to the law. That leaves you the option of getting raped for new originals or finding something second hand. Any way you go about it, you would probably blow about the same emmisions. I tested it first hand a few years back with and without on a Jeep. Virtually the same numbers at a Denver test facility. I think it is a racket. Good Luck

Per Federal law the owner of the car can remove the cats for off road use only.
If a shop does it they can loose their buisness lience.
After market cats are perfectly legal.
Not all states have emissions testing, Michigan does not do emissions testing.
If your cats are bad just buy new ones, you can get aftermarket ones for $100 each and then have them welded in.

Have any of you considered how much this would increase the carbon footprint?!?!

No one is even thinking about the earth just laws and stuff.
