Default ATF flush or not

95 Disco I with 154000. I have read the other posts on the benefits of doing an ATF flush. I know mine has never been done. I am the third owner and for at least the last 75000 it has run dino oil, except the last change which was Valvoline high mileage. Also for the last 75k it has digested primarily 89 octane 10% ethanol blend. My concern is that there may be significant gunk and that it may be over my ability to complete if i have to clean out the pan, etc., that some of the posts contemplate. Thanks for the help, I am trying to become a better land rover owner.

I say no, switch to full synthetic and it will clean your engine as you drive without clogging anything.

A ATF flush will not clog anything that is already on it's last legs. If you do get an immediate drop in pressure, because the engine was so contaminated wil sludge build up, better to deal with it ASAP as with a flush, then wait maybe 3 or 4 synthetic oil changes for it to start to work.
If you have a high miler and are uncertain of its maintance, I would say do it, if you pass a lot of sludge great, then go ahead and drop the pan to remove clean everything thing out. When done, you engine will run much better.

Thanks Mike and Spike for the replies, if I do go forward with the flush how difficult is it to remove the pan and get it cleaned up? It may be on its last legs and I just want to do whatever I can so it lasts as long as it can. Thanks for all the help.

Not hard at all, 6 or 8 bolts and it's off. For what it's worth I think it's pretty unlikely that it's necessary, but I did it just to be thorough and found nothing...my truck's a lot newer though.

Thanks everyone. Do you know to take off the pan and clean do to the vehicle not starting or running rough or what? Sorry, pretty new to this world. I like the idea of being thorough but want to know the options all the same. The old girl was not treated the best by the previous owner so I just want to be prepared for going that extra step if I need to. Thanks

i second DOING the ATF flush.. there is NO reason not too.. if you get something clogged, then you will have to clean it out. I have yet to hear of someone actually clogging the pickup tube because of an ATF flush. I did it in both my 95's (130k and 115k) and I also run one of the gunk engine flushes every 3rd or 4th oil change..
