Definitely would get one if i could find one But where would it be installed?

It’s not easy to get the dipstick in place. I tried installing one from a GEMS P38 but gave up deciding that the engine might need to be removed for enough access.

Harv,

I am wondering if perhaps the P38 engine bay has a very different engine bay profile. The D1 and D2 engine bay openings are similar. The curvature of the oil filler tube will easily position itself right between the SAI pump and heater hoses (see green arrow).

I was lucky to get one from Paul Grant before he retired from his wreckyard business.

The D1 and P38 dipsticks are on opposite sides of the engine bay. The trans pans have a welded male fitting instead of the threaded female fitting on the D2. You need the pan and the tube, highly recommend. Contact any of the breakers here or on FB marketplace (Doc Heydary, Will Tillerey, others).

That explains why I couldn’t do it. Thanks.

Yep running the D1 setup on my 99 D2. Hardest part was getting the dipstick tube to sit on the bell housing bolt hole area and getting the bolt to start. Once the bolt is started leave it loose & then get the nut started on the pan. Then start snugging your bolts up. My 99 D2 didn't have SAI so it was easier to route as well. Once I had the bolt and nit snug I bent the dipstick tube a bit to keep it from rubbing on the bulkhead. Took me maybe 2.5hr from start to finish.

Ah I see from others here as well . It looks like you need a D1 version of the sump pan and dipstick. And these can't be ordered from AB or other vendors huh? it's mostly a salvage part it seems...

Not to threadjack, but it looks like you don't have a PCV? Where does your crankcase vent?
