This last week my Disco II has been a little sluggish on acceleration and today as I get to about 35-45 mph, there is a belt noise coming from the left side and also some sort of squeak from the same side. It also feels like there's something rubbing up around the same mph (intermittently). I have been under it and there's nothing loose that I can see.
Any suggestions?

 

Ok, so I don't think it's belt noise now. It's almost consistent now no matter how fast I am going and only does it when I am in motion. No noise just idling and upping the revs. Sounds more like something is loose. Still coming from the driver's side.

 

STOP DRIVING THIS TRUCK NOW!!!!!!
Have it towed to a shop and have your front driveshaft inspected.
If it fails you WILL be buying a new transmission.
Do a search for driveshaft failure on the forum.

 

So looked at it last night.

We had only got the noise3 like 1 or 2 days ago.

So go under it last night.

Front drive shaft uj in the rear is done.

Time to take it out and rebuild it.

 

Glad to hear we caught it in time.

 

Yeah this is one good reason to marry a car chic.

I don't drive the LR except on weekends.

So when the wife says it is making a weird noise, I know she pretty much means time to look at it since it was not making it the day before.

She pretty much tells me once a month to nut and bolt it kind of thing.

 

That must be nice! I only drive my wife's car once a month or so, and I always ask, "How long has it been doing that?"
"Doing what?"
"That (detail)"
"Oh, for a while, I guess."
"And you didn't tell me...?"
"I didn't think it was a big deal..."

I then have to fix something that costs twice as much to fix than had I caught it earler.

 

Well last night went over to a mates house with all new u joints etc.

Had the how to rebuild the drive shaft tutorial.

I had found a local advanced auto parts with the parts.

Well they told me that they did not stock the u joint part number I specified but had one that cross referenced straight over.

Can we say er no thank you.

I'll have to get the part number. Way long by about 1/2"

Ok here he go.

part number is 1-0153

They are 3.222" long the old ones are 3.027" long

Same diameter on the legs but just too long.

 

Those will not fit, as you say they are too long.
You can get Precision 344 UJs at Napa, they have a Napa equivalent as well that is made in Japan.
Check the diameter on all 4 cups on the Advanced PDQ UJs, they should be 1.063" (27mm), there have been some posts about PDQ UJs with wrong sized cups.

 

I spoke with Forest Gump's even more special brother at Napa.

He said they did not carry U-Joints for the LR.

But he could sell me a new one for $590ish.
