best front drive shaft
Rather than rebuild, I'm toying with the idea of simply purchasing a new drive shaft for my '03 Disco II.
Internet prices range from $200 to $400 new. I know, stay away from anything made in China. But is there one front drive shaft better than another? What about an outfitter or vendor that anyone swears by? Is ebay my best place to shop? Saw a prop on ebay from Rovers of Utah for mid 200's, I think. Anyway, would greatly appreciate references or referrals for a quality product. My ride is simply an everyday ride, so no off-roading or anything of the sort.
Thanks,
Rob

This is the one I have and I am very happy with it. 1999 2004 Land Rover Discovery 2 Heavy Duty Front Driveshaft Drive Shaft New | eBay
I replaced my factory one with a medium duty one from Lucky8 and I am very happy with it. They also sell more hard core stuff, but I don't intend to take my truck off-road more than a couple times a year and nothing too extreme.
I think you will find Jason from Lucky8 is well regarded on the forum and seems to be a straight shooter. It might be worth a call or an email and then you can decide for yourself.

Bill Davis at Great Basins Rovers in Salt Lake City makes/offers 2, both much stronger then the factory shaft ranging from around $370 to low $400's. Also British Parts of Utah offers an American made in Utah, new replacement that is well built and also includes a serviciable centering ball which other then Great Basin, is the only one to offer this which will give you even more mileage.
I am not a big fan of Tom Woods.

If you just drive on the highway or just occasionally hit an easy trail just rebuild the original. Save your money. Buying a heavy duty shaft would be about as wasteful as putting mudders on it next time you need tires. Prolly save $100 doing so too, even more than that if you do it yourself. Just make sure you use the greasable joints. RockAuto.com is where I found the best deal on them.
There is a lot that comes along with a newer designed drive shaft besides the H.D. end of it, the main one is that most will not give you a servicable centering ball, the biggest reason for the shafts failure. The 2 I mentioned have that extra grease fitting that most don't offer.
All the HD propshafts I've seen have a greaseable centering yoke. Which ones don't?
