Black discharge from exhaust

I have a 99 Disco II with 130,000 miles.

This morning I noticed a black spot on the ground at the exhaust pipe. The truck was running at idle for 2 or 3 minutes as I moved another car from the driveway. I did not see any smoke. The tailpipe does seem to have a buildup of black soot.

Any thoughts?

Is your check engine light on? Sounds like you are running too rich, check your air filter first, a clogged air filter can cause this, when was the last time you had a tune up?

Perfectly normal. The condensation mixes with the carbon deposits and drips onto the ground. Unless your getting terrible gas mileage your perfectly fine.

Thanks for your help!!!

Yes the check engine light is on. The truck had plugs and wires in April of 08.
Now that you mention it, fuel consumption is pretty bad. I always runhigh test.
I am going to have the codes looked at today.

Go get your check engine light codes checked and get back to us. At 130,000 miles you have have all sorts of tune related issues showing up, and as already mentioned, all Rover's run real rich at a cold idle and a small amount of soot can be expected.
