Default Block worth

Wondering what value would be considered for a top hat lined 4.6
I have 200k mile 4.6 in my 04 d2. runs perfectly

I have paperwork from rover dealership replacing block at 73k from slipped sleeve under warranty
I have paperwork from local shop replacing head gaskets at 135k and related; radiator, valves, heads machined, studs

inline thermostat mod with ultragage monitor- has never over heated runs consistently at 180 - 196 (from 135k- current mileage) pvc mod, new coils and plugs ect. Engine seems to run as good as possibly could be expected at its age in time.

what would y’all consider this worth? I’ve heard extreme evaluations from a used junk yard unproven motor at 1000$ to a 200k entire truck for $2000

it IS developing a front seal weep* at front main but not enough to drop on ground - dribble. to add all disclosure

looking for thoughts on reasonable value here from those of us who have quite bit time investing in knowing and fixing/ buying selling.

As stated; I have dealership paperwork describing symptoms Described from original purchaser - knocking, diagnosis, problem worsening, diagnosis again, and warranted block replacement with pined liners

Not doubting you but never heard of a Land Rover dealership altering a block in anyway. Think of it this way, there could be no warranty on the replacement block if a dealership tech altered something outside of what Land River corporate approved. Can you post if pic of the document? Pinned liner is very much different than a top hat liner.

As for price that could be tough to estimate but if the block passed a pressure test and was is great condition (nice cross hatch, good flat mating surfaces, with perfect cam bearings, tanked and cleaned) I would give you somewhere between $1-2k for it.

any low end knocks? Maybe post a vid of engine running or some pics These go for anywhere from 800 to 1800 not including delivery ....

the pinned block is a bonus but still has 130K miles....

Tough to value - might be tough to find a buyer as well since shipping will be prohibitively expensive. It's probably, what, around $5k for a new Turner block with top hat liners. But on the other hand, it's only about $4k to buy a complete truck with 130k miles. If you can find a buyer, I guess it would command a premium over an unpinned 4.6 block with 130k miles, but who knows how much. I'd use that as a baseline to inform your pricing.

Somewhere in the $1-2k range sounds right to me, but the tough part will be finding a local buyer who (a) has the ability and desire to do an engine swap himself, (b) doesn't want to buy a complete parts truck and rebuild a motor himself for similar money, and (c) doesn't want to spend the $ to buy a new Turner block.

Out of curiosity- what's your plan for your truck if you're thinking about selling the block? LS swap?

For what it's worth,
I am rebuilding my cracked 4.6 in a 4.0 block.
Using the 4.6 crank, rods, pistons, reman heads, Crower cam, head studs, new injectors, blah, blah, etc.
I am nearing $3500 in parts.
I would say a good running top hatted engine, even with high miles could bring close to that.
As I do my own work; but how many people can't?
I could see that engine bring nearly half the cost of a new Turner, location and buyer considered.
If I could get $3500 out of my vgc 04(whole running truck), minus rear frame rot, once I'm done, at this point, I'de be happy.

Great info. I appreciate it.

I was thinking if I get 5- 750 for it givin the mileage would be great. And only considered ridding it for folks often seeking a motor on here. Logistics being a hurdle in itself.

Chris,
I bought a diesel and it came with a new frame. I think I went cross eyed reading about the LS swap & its obstacles - not for me.

I'm also basing a high price on the ridiculous prices I've seen on "running" 4.0/4.6's for sale, at $2k and $3k+, and probably soon to need head gaskets among other things, basically sorting through various junk.
If you can get a top hat for $500-$750, absoloutely, and I wouldn't care about mileage.

The LS swap detailed with the kit seemed too good to be true and while it worked maybe? Not seeing enough completed swaps documented it seemed to make things more complex than they needed to be. I'm looking at doing a LQ9 LS into mine and running a newer 6 speed auto with a NP t-case and it might cost a little more due to needed a transmission controller. But I think it will be completely worth it.
