I am inclined to agree with you. The pressure build up in the expansion tank could be caused by the bad cap; the coolant is clearly leaking from several hoses and the heater plate (which I plan to bypass rather than replace again), and the misfire was caused by a vacuum leak or oil in the spark plugs. The valve covers needed to get done anyway. I will remember your Rover adages. Thanks.
