Default BMWE thermostat mod

Hello, was looking around online. I was about to order another 180 T stat which I found worked amazing. Was running 188-195 and never went over 200 even towing my tent trailer up HWY hills in the summer.
I came across some Australia D2 forums talking about the BMW E21 thermostat. Saying direct fit in and its great. This is a 170 T stat and gives temps around 175-180. i'm wondering if anyone has tried this and do you have photos of it installed? Thanks for any info.

Yeah there is such a thing as too cold I think. I think 190f is probably a pretty good target for general use. I wouldn't want it much colder than 180f I don't think but I am not really sure.

I think temperatures that low will trigger a warning in the 2003-04 trucks.

The guys in the know here say that a 170 is fine for a 99.5-02, but the 03-04 need a 180, otherwise they run too cold a you get dash light(s)
I'm going to go with one of their inline thermostat mods and use a 180 in my 04.
The inline mod just simplifies things.

P0126 will be the fault on any SAI equipped D2 or P38. My 04 D2 throws it all the time.

But does that code actually effect anything other than a dash light?

Nope just a check engine light. When I drive the 04 I just reset it with the scangauge II. Or leave it alone lol.
