I'm not surw what year you have, but my bolts don't have covers and I just used a regular torque wrench to get them off and it didn't really damage anything. They are so cheap anyway to replace.

DON'T REMOVE THE COVERS!!!!!
Leave the covers on they are not ment to be removed. You lug wrench for you LR should fit on them if not there prolly a lil bent up. Carry a metric socket that is one size bigger thatfits snug.

I had a similar experience. If a mechanic touched your tires recently, they put the lugs on too tight with a pneumatic wrench. I ripped a lug nut cover completely off trying to remove the nut (with no success). At best it is a pain in the butt. At worst, if you had a flat in a remote area, it could be a real sticky situation if you couldn't get the wheel off to change the tire. Your mechanic owes you an apology. Lug nuts aren't cheap, and now I have to replace one.

27 mm Socket ONLY ! They are not cheap in the States. A lug is around US $20 each.
