Brake Master Cylinder Leak
#21
FWIW I installed the rebuild kit two years ago last month. It was such a PITA that vowed it would be worth every penny of the additional hundred bucks or so to order a new master cylinder instead if I'm ever faced with doing it again. There's a seller on Amazon offering a new DII master cylinder for $187.46, shipping included.
That said, we on this forum didn't know about the Audi grommets-only option two years ago. I'd take that route now, I think.

I just did the 70.00 kit on my black 02 D2, and it was so quick and simple! Entire install/rebuild, and brake bleeding took me 30min from start to finish.
Remove master cylinder, remove metal clip, reservoir, old seals, and pop the yellow plastic part off the back of the master cylinder. The 70.00 kit includes all the parts to "correctly" rebuild your master cylinder if all you had was a leaking reservoir.
Install all the new seals, install the reservoir, and the metal clip. Wipe down the brake booster area, re-install the master cylinder onto the booster, fill the reservoir with brake fluid, bleed the master cylinder first, reconnect the two lines, and then loosen the two main lines going into the ABS modulator, and finish bleeding it.
Replacing just the two gromets might fix your leak, but in my case the yellow plastic part was warped and distorted. Also the jug itself might not be considered important, but you'd be surprised at the amount of junk/debris sitting at the bottom of it!!!
I was very impressed with the kit & if my 02 Kalahari ends up leaking I will buy another kit from Lucky8.
