Nice. I don't recall ever seeing the expanded steel mesh for foot traction. Nice touch. Please add a pic of them installed.

Hopefully the PC won’t be too expensive. Right now I have as much in labor and materials as I would have spent on a factory built set. To my credit, the tubes are 2” square, 3/16” thick to match the sill covers. They are a hefty pair and way over built.

Also, its labor intense if you are a home gamer. A ton of grinding to smooth out my awesome welds and had to cut about two dozen 1/2” tubes to go over bolts and inside the sill so that I don’t crush the sill when tightening.

For the final weld, i paid a local fab shop. My 110 volt Hobart just couldn’t get hot enough for the right penetration. I need to be able to count on these to support the entire side off the truck if need be.

These truly are not as good as a frame mounted set, but I don’t plan to get too extreme.

Pics coming soon of these units installed.

Yeah, 3/16's a bit of a stretch for a 110 welder. Most are rated for 1/4 maximun...and that in perfect world conditions.

In my opinion, this design is plenty good enough for the weekend warrior...or even more. It's actually a better design for stiffening up the entire structure of the Dll. You will notice a big change is rigidity, while off roading. Less flex will be felt in the body. Same goes for adding a full length roof rack.
