Default Buying advice for an 03 Disco SE7

I am looking at an 03 se7. I found one locally and wanted to ask some questions here before I make up my mind. Here are the specs

95k miles, runs well no knocks ticks etc
No CEL
No real issues with the truck, but....
just recently the oil pressure light came on, only on at idle, no associate other issues.
It also has a salvage title, he bought it from the ins co. 6 yrs ago and repaired it himself (he is a bodyshop) it has since been his wifes vehicle now she wants a new car.
thats all.

Now Im not scared of the salvage title (I really don't care.. if he did a nice enough job for his wife to own it I'm sure its fine) plus if an ins co wanted to total my car, I would still pay to have it fixed and not care about the salvage title.

I am a mechanic so replacing the oil pump, timing chain H20 etc is not an issue for me either. Neither is the required maintenance associated with owning a LR (this is my 3rd) P38, and a 90 Classic, possibly a SerIII 88 in the near future too.

He has it up for $4500... I got him down to $2500, the bodywork was done really well, the interior is perfect, everything about it is great except the OP light.

Should I grab it? For under $1k I can do the pump and everything else associated. I just looked at an 01' for $4k and it was tired. I want a "new" LR for the wife and fam....

thanks guys..

$2500 sounds good to me. Just take care of the oil light ASAP. You can get just the gears for the pump, if the front cover checks out ok.

you can part it out and make the 2500 back.. sounds like a good deal. especially since you can do the required work.

i was going to say stay away as soon as i saw the oil light. but then i saw that you say you can do the oil pump and that hes only asking 2500.

-get it. but plan on doing the oil pump asap.

I am going to go saturday and most likely buy it.. I'll trailer it back and do the pump, therefore not risking it. I'll post what I do..

thanks for the encouragement

What are you planning to use it for, remember it does not have a CDL t/case you if you plan on a traction vehicle for off road, plan on an extra $1000 plus for a t/case and front drive shaft, plus possible engine and my major service listed at the top of this section.

Its going to shuttle the kids back and forth, and my wife will make it look better than it already does. That's about it.
