Default Buying this Discovery please advise..

Hello Everyone!

I am an absolute Newb to this forum and to Land Rovers. I could really use some advice from you.

I came upon a great deal on a 1995 Land Rover Discovery for 3500$ ( In Cayman Islands that is a steal for a car). I am taking it to a mechanic for an inspection, but would like some advise as to what to look for when buying a used Rover.

Car:

1995 Land Rover Discovery (Green)
85000 miles.
Automatic
Cloth Interior
Serviced Regularly
All electronic and power devices work fine
Took it for a test drive and was impressed.
4wd gears work fine

Issues I've identified so far:

RUST: roof, rear wheel well
ABS light is on.
Underneath the car; front end looks a bit greacy...but nothing excessive for an 11 year old car.

Things that have been recently repaced:

Fuel Tank
Spark Plug Wires
Exhaust
Tires

Why is the owner selling the car:

Needs to leave the island so looking for a quick sale

What will I use the car for:

Weekends only, to haul surfing equipment, give rides to friends...I love my Vespa for daily commuting so the Disco will only be used occasionally.

I need to pay the seller in a couple of days, so I would love to hear your opinions.

That seems like an ok deal, all the issues you have identified are pretty much standard fare for such an aged vehicle. Just put some silicone, or wd40 on the rust areas to prevent water from getting inside more (its what i do, i do not know if it will harm the vehicle, but you are free to try at own risk). 3500 is expensive, but like you said, you dont exactly have the same turnover rate in ownership on an island like that. If you really like the way the Disco looks and works, then get it, nothing seems out of the ordinary really.

OK, Just got back from a mechanic...

Car is solid. Aside from normal issues such as gasket leaks, its in good shape. Some main problems are Valve cover gasket leaking and Power Steering box leaking. Nothing that needs to be replaced immediatly.

So I'll be a proud Land Rover owner in a couple of days!

One thing I have noticed on the car is that rubber seals around the doorways are coming un-glued from the plastic trim. What would be the best way to glue them back? I'm sure I'll have a ton more questions once I closesly inspect my new ride...this board seelms like it will be a walth of information.

Thanks!
