Default cabin air filter

Is your cabin air filter gone? Hard and brittle? Has it deteriorated beyond repair?
Well then you have three options.
1-let sleeping dogs lie and do nothing.
2-replace it with a OEM filter.
http://www.roverparts.com/Parts/STC738G.cfm?bc=ab
3-replace it with after market parts.
I did number three.
Cost me $2.98 and took all of 10 min, that included taking pictures.

I removed a old piece of filter, laid it onto the new filter and used a straight edge and a utility knife to cut the new filter.
Then I took my red Swingline stapler and doubled the thickness of the new filter and stapled the ends together.
Slid the new filter into place and all is done and looking like it was made for it.
Pretty easy DIY job, and I have filter left over for another project or the next time it needs to be replaced.

Spike,

Correct me if I'm wrong here (like I have to ask for that LOL) but, in the first picture (of the old filter) - is that a water line on the lower quarter of it?

Also, my Swingline is an older model and is gloss black. Is it ok to use this on an '04 Dll or should I get a Red (Professional Model) One???

by the by nice photos - good of you to allow us to take advantage of your time!!!

Spot On!

Yes that was a water line, thats all the deeper you can drive without flooding your truck lol.
And no, you need the red Swingline stapler, a Bostick stapler wont work, I have a red one, I like having a red one, everyone else has a black one but I like red, nobody gets to use my stapler because it is red and I really like red.
Please dont touch my stapler.

Thanks for posting this one! I did the same on mine. I just bought a 2000 disco. The shop pressure washed it so there was foam bits in the tray. I went to Miejer and cut a furnace filter. I did not need to staple it because it was thick enough as it was. (which is good because being a teacher, those staples aren't really mine!)

Photos are gone. What type of filter material did you use in your replacement hack? Thanks!

I have to admit the LR OEM debris filter, (the foam filter at the top rear of the engine bay) has to be the most over priced strip of foam I've ever seen. I've replaced it with a strip of nylon mosquito door mesh and wedged it into place with pieces of the old foam filter under the clips.

I suppose you could use a strip of GRP wadding in it's place.
