Default Can't get my nut off

Can't get the big nut off to remove the fan to remove the water pump. Got a good wrench that fits. Per the forums tried heating it, beating it, penetrating oil ... nothing works. How can I stop the pulley from turning so I can use a breaker bar on the 36mm wrench.

There is a way to remove the water pump with the fan attached to it. Once off, you can separate them much more easily..............Do not bust your nut...OK!

There is actually a special tool that goes over the bolts that bolt the fan pulley to the water pump.
It is a horse shoe shape and has the holes drilled in it so the heads of the nuts go right threw.
Otherwise use the air chisel, put the head of the chisel on a flat spot on the nut and hit it quick, once or twice and it should spin right off.

This is the actual tool to use but it ain't cheap.

I actually had luck just whacking a a big wrench (while on the nut) with a bat. Some people use a big strap wrench wrapped around a pulley other say they can get off the water pump with the fan attached. The tool from difflock is a sure bet though.

Just use a spanner (I even used a set of pipe plyers lol). Make sure you are going in the right direction, and hit the spanner, or w/e your using, with a rubber mallet a couple times until it comes loose.

I used a long pry bar and wedged it on the bolt heads of the pulley to hold it from spinning. While having a friend apply pressure to it in the downward position I used a small sledge to tap an large adjustable wrench. If you can get the pry bar to lock up the pulley then it shouldn't be too hard to knock it loose.

This is the extent to me "lending a hand" that I'll offer, haha.

Good luck

First the serp belt needs to be on. You say you have a good wrench great. Take a foot of small diameter nylon rope or heavy string, loop it through the end of the wrench you hit with the hammer.Tie it . Now you pull the "rope" to put tenshon on the wrench while you give it a good smack with a large hammer. Works great!!! And if the wrench flies off its connected to the rope so no damage is done. Also much easier on hands and fingers!! Hope this helps...Mike
