Default CD Changer Removal

I searched for this topic first before posting but could not find something definitive.

What I'm searching for is if someone has successfully removed the CD changer from their Disco II. My CD changer is under the front passenger seat, and it's of no use to me anymore since I changed my factory stereo unit to a more modern receiver.

I've looked around the internet and some articles say you need to remove the seat and it's no big deal; others say no need to remove the seat you can manage to remove the CD changer as is.

So which one is it? Can you post quick instructions on how to remove the CD changer? Where can I find the actual dimensions of the changer? Reason for this is I want to mount an amplifier in its place.

Many many thanks for your future response

Al

personally I would remove the seat, two bolts from the top and two bolts with nuts on the bottom, it will be much easier than bending over try to unbolt the cd where you can't see.

Can be removed without removing the seat.

Step one, make sure seat is all the way back with electronic button
Step two, now take off plastic around base of seat
Step three, open back door passenger and reach under seat unplug electric connection
Step four, there will be four nuts that hold cd player & mount remove those
Almost there, tip the studs will stay in floor when done
Wiggle the unit out from under there your done!

Now sell cd player on ebay or forum!

Sorry i dont have any left to measure for you Al, but i would fasten up a amp to the cd changer mount as it is already there and you can re use the 4 studs that are in the floor.

Thank you very much drowssap and lr2001silver

I'm scared of removing the passenger seat, might not be able to put it back

So I'll go with lr2001silver's suggestion

So LR: you removed your CD changer? I'm curious what took its place

Ya, pretty simple to do with the seat in. Just run it back and up.

Yeah, I have never had to remove my seat the three times I have removed mine to remove a broken CD, jambed tray, or to rebuild and grease it. I figure I now can pull the changer in about 10-15 minutes.

I removed mine last month man, just move the seat all the way forward, grab a 1/4" ratchet and the correct socket. a couple sizes of small extensions help out. don't be fearful. it is just a cd player. you did a great job with your sub wiring. you were worried about that and it came out great. just use the force... it is strong with you!

My D1 had an amp mounted under the driver's seat in much the same fashion. The bolts weren't particularly easy to get out of there, but it wasn't necessary to remove the seat.
