CDL just installed, one question.
I finally got around to getting my DI CDL linkage into my 2000 DII. It actually went fairly well, the trickiest part was getting the bend correct in the hi/lo connecting rod. Overall, the whole thing works great, nice and smooth.
The one problem I have is that when I shift into lo it doesn't seem to engage as much as it used to. I have to push up on the shifter pretty hard (just at the very up position) to get the transfer case to stay in lo. My question is, will the solenoid in the transfer case ensure that it will not slip out of lo once the transmission is in anything other than neutral? Also, is the dash light and beep indicating the transfer case is in neutral a safe indicator (once it's off) that everything is engaged properly? Thanks. |
i had the same experience where the throw on the D1 linkage isnt as much as it was on teh D2 linkage. For that reason i am switching back to the D2 linkage and will use a different trick to engage the CDL either cutting an access plate or a flat bar that will be affixed to the nipple that i can just reach under the truck and push forward or back. yes once the dash light and beep is off you are fully engaged.

No there is no solenoid to keep the t-case from slipping back into neutral, thats why there is a buzzer.
If it is buzzing you are not fully engaged. |

If it is buzzing you are not fully engaged. Hilltoppersx, please let me know what you end up doing. I may need some info to do the same if I can't get this DI working linkage right. |
The solenoid in the t/case is to make sure you don't shift into low range while the tranny is in drive.

Oh ok, Thanks Mike. I'm assuming it just the detent in there that keeps it in gear then?

From what I understand there is a spring that holds it into CDL, so as long as you are fully engaged it will in no way slip out.
However if it is NOT fully engaged then yes it can slip out of gear. |
