Default Code 413 - Secondary Air Valve... Mysterious Unconnected Hose...

Hey Guys,

So I've made some good progress with my new Rover... I'm down to one code... p0413.

I've noticed a hose that's not attached to anything.. Maybe it's the culprit? See the attached image..

Not gonna help. Ha.

Your also missing a small vac tube that goes to that canister just below your hand. That will throw codes.

Have a look on the rave for the SAI system and where stuff is supposed to go.

It's not attached to anything because you are missing the rest of the SAI components. You should see the valves and hard lines that connect to the ex manifolds. Motor was prob replaced at some point.

it doesn't look like you have SAI heads installed. maybe i just can't see it in the photo, but i'm not seeing the vacuum pump or the hoses that come off the head. if you don't have SAI heads installed and you have a SAI ECU you will always get the SAI codes unless you have the ECU reflashed to a non-SAI format.

Interesting... I have a parts rover, I might see if I can get the SAI off of it.. or I might just live without it...

I've cleared the following codes in the 3 weeks I've owned this thing.. Bought it for $1500 due to the guy leaving town the next day... Spent $80 in parts so far..

Brake Light
Three Amigos (reset with Code reader... hasn't come back)
1590
1884
112
308
305
300

Replaced ignition wires and plugs.
Replaced the MAF from my parts Rover
Cleaned out Throttle Body
Replaced Air Filter
Unplugged and Plugged in the Brake Fluid Tank Cap

If it doesn't have SAI heads just get an ECU out of another 4.6 P38 Bosch or 4.6 D2 that isn't SAI and call it a day and remove the rest of that crap.

If you have SAI heads, they will have 2 threaded holes between the spark plugs on each.
They should have brass tubes coming out to hook up to the rest of the SAI system.
Those holes can be filled with threaded plugs. And I've seen hack jobs of the tube ends from the heads crimped closed.
If the heads are non SAI in an SAI truck, then someone swapped the heads, or the whole engine, as they are notorious for overheating and blowing head gaskets.

I also have a good set of SAI heads from a running 4.6 if anyone needs a set.

if you're in a region that tests emissions, you will not be able to delete the sai system because the vin will tell the testing equipment that it should be there.
