Default Cold start issue...

Hey all,
Just got done doing a head gasket job on my Disco... Replaced basically every component that came off the car that is serviceable and needless to say, I'm happy this is my only issue!

When the car sits overnight or even a long period during the day and I go to start it, car turns over just fine but the engine will then bog down into a really low RPM (300-500 rpm) as opposed to doing the standard warm up routine. I'll give it gas for about 5 seconds bringing it to just over 1k RPM, take the foot off the gas and it will settle at around 750 without issue. I have checked for vacuum leaks but cannot find any problems visually. Can anyone point me in the right direction?

Valley pan gasket can have a small leak, but usually a vacuum leak will increase RPM not lower it.
Have you pulled the plugs after it has sat all night to check for gas/coolant in the cylinders?

is your SAI pump running when you start it up? Also, is it all hooked up correctly?

Update:
I've checked for all these things for the most part. I'm not having any coolant loss issues abut I did not pull the plugs for fuel. Like I said, it starts fine, fires right up so I expect there is not cylinder flooded with fuel. But it will begin to bog once started, I'll give it some gas, idle will settle and everything works fine. The SAI pumps does turn on with it's normal winding. I've sprayed all possible vacuum lines, exposed gasket mating surfaces with parts cleaner and no change in idle characteristics.

With A LOT of searching I cannot seem to find a new issue I'm having. I am now getting the dreaded tick/clack. Never had this before till shortly after the head gasket job. It will only tick when cold at idle and seems to subside if revved over 1500 rpm. It goes away when the truck starts to heat up. I'm aware of the various issues that cause this but have not read anywhere of the issue going away at warm up. Truck has 87k on it, METICULOUSLY maintained and the only difference now then before the head gasket job is that I moved from Mobil 1 5W-50 to the Rotella T6 Syn 5W-40.
