Default Considering buying a OBD2 scanner. Any experience?

I have my CEL on, and thought of buying a simple OBD2 scanner myself. Each time I go to the shop to have codes read it costs about $45. All local shops here seem to have agreed to charge for the service and Autozone stopped doing it for free because the locals were not making any money... Anyway, There seem to be quite a few machines out. Is there any specific one for say $150, that will work well with the LR? Read codes, reset CEL when done?

I also found some companies that sell software to install on the PC. You still have to buy a wire to connect the PC to the car. Any experience with that? Recommendations?

Thanks!

Any scanner will work with LR. You can spend about $80 and get one that is really basic or spend more and get more features. I have an Innnova 3100 scanner that works really well. Half of the features it has I have never used. Mine also has the ability to plug in to a computer using a USB cable but I have never done that either.

I bought the Pro-Series OBDII from this site. I've used it several times, but fortunately not on my Disco yet! It's easy to use and offers good info. And, for $65, you can't miss!

Great, thanks! I'll stop by Harbor Freight and pick one up. It's good to know I don't need to spend $200 to get a useful one. More money left over for other goodies!

Get a Scan Gauge, it lets you also check your MPG, engine load%, water temp etc.

Well, I went to Harbor Freight and got CEN-TECH 99722 for $79... Read my codes in the parking lot! I'll do a separate post with the results.

You can consider ScanTool.net LLC - OBDLink WiFi Scan Tool / Interface / Adapter - ScanTool.net , works very well for landrover discovery 2, frelander etc , cost $200. I am using this.
I will try elmscan5 it is 50$ and i will comeback with feedback
