Coolant colours
 

Simple question, should you put green, blue or orange coolant in a Discovery series 2 model year 2002. Does it really matter, and if so, why?

quick answer if it's orange it is probably Dexcol which doesn't not mix with anything else.
I say probably because I have seen some store brands that are orange and are not Dexcol.
Land Rover used Dexcol because it hade a long life span, but later there were problems found with it, the best thing you can do if you do have orange coolant is have it removed and replaced with standard antifreeze.

The Dexcool when contaminated by air, water, other coolant, pixie dust, etc., can turn into a mud sludge that will also decompose things like radiator cap. Flush and go green 50/50 premix, only top up with same or a jug of distilled water. Flush and replace coolant like 3 years or less. 10 year coolant is part of the "big plan" to make used vehicles so expensive to maintain that people will buy new. And 10 year coolant shifts the repair bills from the lease holder to the final owner. And cash for clunkers took out our low priced supply of cars. Purchasers of prime posh pre-owned sheet metal can't get a break.

As long as it is aluminum safe you can use whatever you want, I would stay away from the organic acid technology (OAT) coolants.
I prefer to buy it in the pre-mixed because it is idiot proof.

Is there a write up on flushing the coolant. I just bought 2 gallons of Peak 50/50.

Here's a GM TSB on how to flush Dexcool, just don't refill with same.

there are drain plugs on the block, DO NOT TRY AND REMOVE THEM. skip that part.

Amen - they will be so corroded you don't want to disturb them.
