Default Coolant leak

I'm new to Land Rovers but I'm pretty sure they're not supposed to just pour coolant out. I have a 2004 Land Rover Discovery and I just changed the water pump. (The old one went bad because of a chipped fan blade.) Coolant starting pouring out when I wiggled the fan before putting the new water pump on, so any ideas. I filled the reservoir up and in a few minutes it's completely drained without the engine on. Also how do you take the plastic cover off the bottom of the engine. If I could get that off I could see where the leak is coming from. As far as I can tell its pouring out around the oil filter.

1) How did the chipped fan blade take out the water pump?
I can see a fan blade taking out the radiator but not the pump.

2) Where did you buy your new pump and did you install a new gasket?
My old gasket took a lot of use with a plastic scraper to get the old stuff off. If you don't clean the surface really sell then the gasket might not seal.

3) What plastic cover are you talking about?
I do not have any type of plastic cover or skid plate, but I have an 01' and they may have added some plastic crap in that time. A picture would help.

4) Double check that you have the bottom hose that connects to the pump on and clamped tight

1. The fan wobbled because of the chipped blade and I didn't get it replaced in time. 2.As far as I can tell it's not coming from the water pump. 3. And 4. I'll check when I get home.

IF the fan is wobbling then there is a good chance the fan ruined the radiator.
Check for where the fan blades contacted the radiator.

The failed water pump bearing caused the fan to tilt just enough to chip the fan whilst the fan was consuming the radiator.

You need:

1) new radiator.
2) New fan
3) New water pump

How'd you get the old gasket all the way off. I got most if it off and then used rtv. And apparently it didn't work all that great

I used a plastic scraper to get the old gasket off. If it is really on there and not coming off then take a piece of 80 grit sand paper and go at it.

Did you use RTV along with a new gasket or just RTV?
A "Thin" coat of RTV along with a new gasket is okay, but just using RTV will not work. I didn't use any RTV and have been fine for over 50k miles, but you really need to get all of the old gasket off for it to make a perfect seal.

The fan chipped when the belt flew off, and the first gasket I got was bent so it didn't seal at all. I bought a new fan with the new water pump, and I found the leak. It was behind the water pump all along. And yes I tried to use just the rtv and it didn't work at all so I have a new gasket coming in Wednesday. Also I was told not to use any kind of abrasive on the pump housing as it could scar it or something to that effect.

I used a plastic scraper, but if the old gasket is melted on in some spots, 80 or 100 grit automotive sandpaper (used by hand) is not going to damage the metal on the pump or timing cover.
