Default Coolant Leak Broken Fitting

Hey Guys,

Big problem with my 2002 Disco II

There's two 5/16" hoses coming from my coolant expansion bottle. One goes to the throttle body and the other to the top right corner of the radiator. The one that goes to the radiator is hose clamped to a small plastic nipple that is molded into the radiator. That plastic nipple has broken off flush with the radiator body. I'm thinking I can Drill and Tap for a new 5/16" Nylon or brass fitting. Please let me know what you think.

Thanks Scotty

Well, I guess that might work but do you really want to chance it? Blowing the re-taped fitting on the highway and loosing all your coalant could blow your engine and also damage the transmission. Cooling systems build up a lot of pressure and they usually find the weakest point to leak from.

I wouldn't chance it. What was a $230 radiator will turn into a $4k repair bill after you replace your engine.

Actually Just the radiator is $461.00 at Pep Boys or $940.00 at the Dealership + $650.00
labor to install it. All because of a stupid plastic hose fitting molded into the plastic side of the radiator. Really terrible design, why anyone would put plastic parts on a radiator is beyond my comprehension.

I Fixed my radiator problem like brand new. The answer was "Plastic Welding". You can find tons of videos on the subject on YouTube, including repairing leaks in radiators. I have been driving it for a week now with zero leaks! Saved tons of time and money.
