I recently installed both an UltraGuage and a Grom unit and trying to figure out the best way to organize the cords.
On the Grom, the unit itself is behind the head unit on the right side and completely bluetooth so no issue there. What I am having issues with is the microphone for phone calls. Anybody have a good way to wire it so that it is hidden up above the visor or near the steering wheel?
On the Ultragauge, I have it mounted to the windshield on the left side so just need to get any ideas on how to hide the cord running up.
I run all of the various cords (GPS, GPS antenna, microphone, ultragauge, CB, etc.) up the left side from the lower left corner of the fusebox cover door to the top of the dashboard. They can be pushed back into the gap between the dash assembly and the vehicle wall. Anything that needs to go all the way to the roof (e.g. microphone) goes behind the A pillar trim.
Mounted on the dash between binnacle and A-Pillar.
I have the cord tucked down invisibly behind the side dashboard, side footwell kick panel, and then behind the kick panel that lowers for access to the fusebox. I used a wire tie to wrap up the excess cord in a little loop/spool which stays under the steering column behind that lowering fuse panel, along the bottom edge. You can't see the cord anywhere except coming out of the back of the Ultragauge and about 1/2" of it coming out of the OBDII port plug.
It's dark and rainy and 35 here in Portland, and will send you pics of my routing tmrw.
For the Ultragauge, I was going to run the wire under the trim that’s below the steering wheel, but ended up just running it under the floor mat. Same mounting location as you.
For the Grom mic, I pulled up the trim piece forward of the center dash storage tray - the wire drops straight down to the radio:
