Cracked Block?

Bearings are easy to replace, and not expensive.
I replaced a few parts before pulling my 4.6 for a rebuild. Including an oil pump. I ran the engine only a few minutes, the tick came back(bad bearings), and I shut it off and pulled the engine.
I got a new timing cover, which came with a new oil pump.
If you want the new oil pump I put in my old cover, it's yours, you can have the old cover too if you want it.
The cover didn't appear to be in bad shape, and may or may not be better than yours.
I'm in Va, and don't know what shipping would be.
I have extras of several parts, all free to whoever can use them.

When the the oil pan is dropped you can visually inspect, the seals and bearings to see if anything is damaged, but it takes a lot to kill those.

Coolant just makes a mess, it will not corrode anything in a short time (months), this happens to every kind of vehicle
  • You just drain all the oil and coolant, from both the cooling and engine and oil.
  • Fix the problem
  • Put a cheap filter on and a good detergent oil in (Rotella is good choice)
  • Fill your cooling system with distilled water
  • Run it up to temp and let it run for bit 15 - 20 minutes - Monitor the Temps
  • Let it cool down
  • Check you oil and coolant
  • Just do that 4 or 5 times
  • Drain and put your regular oil filter and coolant in
Then just do your regular changes,you should be fine.

...so there has been movement on the Rover front. I drove past tonight and she was moved from behind the dumpster and is positioned on the grass in front of the garage bays. Here's hoping that she's looked at tomorrow!!

Thanks for the offer on the front cover and oil pump Sixpack. I may take you up on that if needed. And thanks for clearing things up for me on the coolant front, Richard. I was worried over that.. good to know.

Hopefully I'll know more in the next couple of days - fingers crossed.

And CollieRover.. I'm SO sorry to hear that you are having trouble with your new headgasket job. That really sux but it appears you have a good handle on it

Glad to hear that you should have answers soon.

Thanks for the thought. I’ll sort it out. Will be interesting to see what went wrong. Then not repeat that!

Stopped in to take Bertha Sunday breakfast this morning and check on her headliner Took a peek inside. I'll hold off on calling them tomorrow and give them some more time...

don't know what the cigarette ash looking stuff is?...

Have they begun reviving Berthat? Or are they just sharing heaters on break in there?

If the pan is off, assuming...since they have the bolts inside, l'd also assume they are doing/planning on doing a pressure test. Usually, if coolant is suspect in the oil pan, you pull the pan, pressurize cooling system, grab a flashlight...and something to read, while you lay underneath...watching for coolant to run down, along, behind, inside cylinder sleeves...or out of the front cover region (between oil pump housing and block) or from valley pan area (which would normally be dripping from cam shaft area).

lf coolant is found, where it is coming from will help determine possible cause.

1) Along/behind inner portion of liner...possible cracked block or liner issue.

2) From inside the cylinder...possible head gasket issue (if one of the front or back cylinders) or cracked block and sleeve (very unlikely).

3) From high up inside the engine...valley pan would be suspect.

4) From oil pump region...oil pump housing/gasket would be suspect.

Doing a compression and cylinder leakdown test would also help verify block condition.
