Crackle Sound on acceleration from stop.

I periodically hear a crackle sound on accelerating from a stop toward the right front of my 99 DII. It doesn't happen once the car is moving and I accelerate. It happens every once in awhile.

bearings? Swivel ball? Have you re-built your driveshaft yet? The driveshaft would be the crucial place to start. If it fails on the highway, you will punch a hole in the tranny...

I replaced the front drive shaft with nipples to lube 'em up two years ago.

It is actually more prevelant when I turn right than left or straight.

Check the wheel bearings and move on to the CV joint after that..

Spike555 03-18-2009 05:43 PM

CV joint going bad.
Only happens when turning and under power...CV joint.

Boots on the cv joint not torn. Still suspect failing CV joint? If so, do both sides need to be replaced or just one. How would i do an inspection to determine?

CV joint,,,

Spike555 03-18-2009 06:25 PM

The boot does not need to be torn for a CV joint to fail, just plain old age/miles.
Just replace the failed one...unless you have money to burn.

I had a 1995 Ford Aerostar AWD with a front CV joint that was failing. Didn't have the money to fix it, so I drove it like that. I drove 30,000 miles on that bad cv joint.
