Default Cruise Control

Hello, I just purchased a 97 discovery with 60K miles and I have not been able to get the Cruise control to work. From what I understadn, you push the button on the lower left of the dash so the light comes on, then get to your desired speed and pull the set button on the steering wheel towards you. If I am not doing this correctly then please tell me, if not, then what could be the problem? Thanks.

Sounds like you're doing it right. I have an 04 and you have to be going at least 28 mph for the cruise control to work. Are you going at least that fast when you attempt to set it?

Your doing it right. But it could be a bad cruise controler or loose wiring. The button on the consol does light up, right?

Yes, I think I am doing it correctly (and over the 28mph min. speed requirement). It must not be working! Thanks..

Hey Let me know if you find out anything about your cruise control. I just bought a 2000 Disco II and mine won't set a speed after engaging the button with the light either, thanks!

Check the Vacuum tubing under the hood for cracks. It is frequently the source of your problem. It cost around $1.80 to replace all of it. Look for the actuator attached to the throttle cable, and trace out the lines from there to the firewall and vacuum pump. About 90% of the time it is the source of your problem. The other 10% of the time is a real bit*h to diagnose. I just recently had one of the 10% variety.

i have a 2001 disco and i have the same problem. i'll be moving along at any speed over the minimum, i'll engage the cruise control button (which lights the little light), and then i'll try to set the speed. nothing happens. i've checked the fuse, and it looks good.

what should i be looking for with the throttle cable and vacuum pump. i'm not very mechanically savvy at this time.

I had the same issue with my '97 Disco I. I found that all the vacuum tubes were rotted. I replaced and it wrks great.
