Default D1 Starting trouble...

Yet another problem! My 96 Disco is now having trouble starting. Here is the scenario...Took it to work today - Started fine. Left work 30 minutes later- Started fine. Went to do an errand and when i came out to start it 20 minutes later it cranked and started then sputtered and died. Did that every time for 5 more tries. Unplugged the ecu, no effect. Did the alarm reset by locking/unlocking 3 times. Then it fired up.

Drove home and turned it off. 30 seconds later I try to start it and it sputters and dies. Let it sit for an hour then try to start it and it starts fine. Turned it back off then on and it does the same sputtering and dies. Any ideas?

I just did a tuneup and also replaced the crank sensor and fuel filter.

Well, the truck has been sitting for 3 hours. Went to start it now at 6:45 at night and it fired right up. Started it and turned it off 3 times and it fired up quick and fine each time. Its seems as though the starting issue is only when it is warmed up....

I am new to Land Rovers (lots of vehicle experience in general), but fuel filter and crank sensor are posibilities. Does it die while running at all?

I just did the fuel filter when I replaced the crank sensor last week. It only does it when it is warmed up.Seems like the pump or pump relay....

Boy o boy.....I would sure check the fuel pump. I had this problem with a carb V8. About drove me nuts.

I find to that I live my this thought.....keep it simple and when in doubt test and retest.

Next time it won't start, check fuel pressure at the rail. There is a little schrader valve on the fuel rail (like a tire stem valve) just push it in to see if you have fuel pressure. Be careful,as fuel will squirt out. If you have adequate pressure, try the old screwdriver in a sparkplug boot to see if you are getting fire. That will narraow it down a little.

I have had starting problems in the past, and it got to where if the key was on, the truck would start itsself...It was water in the fuse box...
