Default D2 oil pump gears replaceable? LR said no?

So I'm about to re seal my timing cover, everybody says to replace oil pump gears while I'm at it. I didn't order any from AB with rest of the stuff. Now I'm concerned that if I need them, I won't be able to get them in time (because I'm trying to do this while wife is out of town so I have her car) so I called Land Rover of Frisco today asking about the gears, they say they are not servicable and you have to buy the whole front cover, $1300+!! AB sells the gears for 99$. So is LR correct or trying to just get more money out of me?

Thanks, pwaltrip

Land Rover does not sell the gears. You have to get them aftermarket.

If your gears look ok, and measure out fine, you should be able to reuse them. I bought a set, when the price was starting to go up, at the cheaper price, just to have around in case something happens, but my oil light goes off immediately when I start up so I think mine are probably fine. Do you have any symptoms? Noises? Oil light takes a while to extinguish in the morning?

I don't think I have any symptoms, my oil light only comes on after an oil change for about a second. I have noticed a new noise, but it's more like a rattle instead of a tick, and it comes and goes...I will check gears when I take it apart, hopefully I'm good because I don't have time to order any and get them shipped before I have to have it running again.

One more question, what's the correct priming procedure for the oil system upon completion of repairs?

its a rotor type pump it does not really need priming, but you could put a little vasiline or assemble lub on it if you wish.

At 76k "I" would not be replacing the pump, the only reason "i" would concider it is because it's an 03. if it were any other year and i was not having an issue it would be closer to 150k.

According to my local dealership in Charlotte heater core o-rings don't exist for the Discovery 2. He even told me this when I was looking at my own core right in front of my face over the phone. Total clowns.
