Dealer says my engine is leaking oil because of Royalpurple.?!!@!
I have extended warranty and my engine was leaking a good amount of oil and apparently they replaced *all* the seals possible. I don't believe they replaced every seal but just the easy ones. My engine continues to leak a good amount of oil. It never used to leak oil. Maybe a drop here and there but not small puddles under my disco. I have been using royal purple 15w40 for my last 3-4 oil changes and now the dealer is saying it is because of my oil. That the cleaning agents are too strong and the oil is too thin.
Is this a load of bull?

Thats a load of bull. Yes it is possible that the cleaning agents will clear away sludge that might be plugging a leak but it wouldn't cause a major leak to happen like you are describing. As for their arguement that the oil is too thin ............. you are using 15-40 which is heavier than the 10-30 the truck comes with. Granted it is fully synthetic but since you have gone up in weight there shouldnt be any negative effects. I'd tell them to stop bullsh*ting and fix the leak already ........ although I know its easier said by you than done by them. Good luck

Well, I believe it. I had a leaka few years back that was related to my front gasket. Had it changed and the vehicle was completely dry and I was checking on a daily basis in order to bring back the truck to have them re-do their job if it leaked again. After a few monthsIdecided to switch tomobil 1 full synthetic. A few days after, I wanted to make sure that my oil filter was tight enough and was flabersgasted to see that there was oil drops hanging at the oil pan.
So you figure it out. Completely dry for months, then leak 2-3 days after switching to synthetic oil. Seems pretty clear to me.
But I decided to stick with Mobil 1 anyway!! So I came up with a way to keep my driveway dry.

That is a huge load of crap. The engine seals should have gotten used to the new oil by now, it took my truck 3 oil changes to stop leaking after I switched to M1.
As is typical with extended warrenties they dont want to fix anything because it cuts into their profit margin.
This is one of the many reasons I say do not buy a extended warrenty.
Next they will tell you that they wont cover it because you are not using 10w-40 like LR recommends, and then they will tell you they wont cover it because of your lift and oversized tires.
