Default Diagnostic Tools Recomendations

I wanted to get some diagnostic tools or tools. I have access to universal ones that read the standard engine codes, but I'd like to get something that can diagnose SLS, ABS and the landrover specifics etc..
In my searches I see alot of talk anout the ABS amigo and the nanocom.
If you have experience with those I would love to hear it.
Thank You in advance.

On the Discovery I you can access the WABCO brake controller via the OBD-II connector by shorting out two pins. I wrote that up and took pictures of the write up. I need to find those pictures.

On the Discovery II this may be the same too.
The OBD Check engine light will blink out the trouble codes for the Brake controller.

So if you take the Rover in to a dealer with a Rovacom or such you spend $200 or more in fees.

If you have your own specialized tool - you may spend $700 or more.

I think it balances out and you can always resell the tool you buy.

99.9% of the time my specialized tools just sit.
I recently sold off most of it.

My rover scanner is now this made in China scanner which does live engine diagnostics too. Paid all of $40 for it on Amazon.

I did have a scanner which I had paid $550 for years ago.
Sold that for $125 recently as it covered OBD-II and a lot of older stuff - pre OBD-II.

I am thinking -- simplify my life - not complicate it.

I've got a hawkeye and nanocom. Both work great, but the nanocom has more advanced features, and has a cool touchscreen. They are priced similarly, but sometimes you can find REALLY great deals on the hawkeye on ebay. I'd still pay the extra for the nanocom instead, especially if you plan on keeping the D2 for a while or plan on getting something newer from Land Rover. There are some cool updates coming out for LR3 and above that will make the nanocom the best thing around, so it seems.

A lot of people have been talking about the autocom product, I've not used it, but it seems to be very affordable.

A guy at aulro is using launch x431 idiag with ok results.

I've had good luck with my Hawkeye, but the hawkeye is not just an OBII scanner it will remotely operate every devise in your truck.

Autel AL619 will read and clear OBD ABS and SRS codes on Land rovers and it is only $165 on Amazon. I have one and I am very happy with it.

This is a good deal. Especially if you have other cars you need to read codes on.

I just have land rovers at the moment (and one of them has no computers) so I prefer the extra features of a land rover specific tool.

CDP+ Reads/clears all codes, OBDII, ABS, SRS, TCM, BCM, Etc... Around $100 delivered. Also remotely activates lights, switches, motors, etc...

Down side? Needs laptop or tablet to interface.

I just got the Autocom CDP+ as well. It seems to be the cheapest option to get diagnostic data, run tests, clear codes/amigos, reset Transmission Adaptations, bleed brakes, etc. It also has a live mode you can use when you're driving if you buy a microSD card. The software installation is a B*%&# but once you get it done (requires PC, not Mac) it's fairly robust for $100. It also works with tons of other makes and models.
