Default Diesel conversion feasible in 03 Discovery??

Engine is running great but I'm thinking about parting it out and converting my 03 to a diesel if it isn't ridiculous to do so. I don't know why but I'm always scared to drive the discovery on long trips with the possibility that the oil pump goes out and my engine locks up. Can I get the 03 or 04 discovery Diesel engine they used overseas? Any links to a place that sells them? TIA

Yes you can do the converstion, but it will set you back about $10,000 for the engine, inter cooler, bell housing etc.
You can buy a used TD5, but shipping will kill you.
There is a place in Canada that does these convertions using International 4 cylinder turbo diesels, you can also get a Isuzu or a Toyota engine.
There is a guy on discoweb.org that did this to his DI and it cost him, he did the labor, just under $10k.
Sooo...how bad do you want to do this?
You can buy a brand new LR 4.6 for $7000, or a used one for under $5000.

I think we all dream about this conversion, but as spike pointed out it's really not cost feasible.

With enough time and money anything is possible. The president of the local LR club drives a D1 with a TD5 swapped in.

Bringing a TD5 in from the UK would be expensive but would be the most cost effective way to do a diesel conversion.

Wait till the oil pump goes (if it even does) to consider swapping the engine.

If it's not his daily driver, and he parts it out, then there is 5 or 6 grand of that diesel conversion taken care of.

Personally, I'd love to see it.

Not my daily driver and what all would I have to part out to get 5 grand? If I could get 5 and then only have to add 5 more I'd definitely do it.

What is the name of the diesel engine that was used in the 03 or 04 discovery's?

Anyone know what I'd gain or lose in terms of hp/torque/speed/weight/efficiency/etc?

Search on discoweb. There are two people right now putting diesels into rovers, one nissan and one 300tdi. The nissan was 600 for the engine, will need to add in addapter plate, etc. The 300tdi was 2100$ shipped from England I believe.

they use to be worth that much, somebody would have to be a fool to pay $5k for a used gas engine now especially an '03 with the oil pump problem. you can get a whole DII with low miles for $5K.

I've read those threads. I'd rather stay with a land rover engine but I'm interested in seeing how that nissan diesel works out. Only problem I have is that I want to go new so I guess I'm looking at the 10K. I could care less about the fact that this engine alone will be worth slightly more $$$$$ than my truck as I'm planning on keeping this one for a very long time.
