Default Diff Lock on '02

So what does it take to add a differential lock to an '02? I know I don't have the "nipple" that would allow me to just add a method for activitating a an already existing diff lock...

Has anyone here added a diff lock on an '02?

The easiest way is to replace the t-case with one that has a diff-lock, like from a DI.
So is your trk back on the road?

Not yet, but it should be in a week - week and a half. After examining the truck with the mechanic, the damage is not as bad as I originally thought. Still a nearly $8k insurance estimate, but the ARB bumper really took most of the force of the crash. Additional damage was mostly to the hood and one side panel. Even the A/C unit just behind the grill seems fine. Of course the ARB bumper itself is being replaced...

The accident provided a good opportunity to switch over to some Grabber AT2 tires, since insurance is covering two new front tires. The prospect of decent offroad tires got me thinking about the CDL...

On the diff lock, can I also put in an '04 t-case if I were to find one?

I think you can use the t-case from a '04, but a DI will be cheaper.

Thanks for those links. Is there any downside or additional modifications required when putting a DI t-case in a DII? What's the reliability like of rebuilt t-cases from roverland?(I know I would need to put in some control mechanism, perhaps from an '04 DII--but anything else?)

Also, is the t-case from a '99 -'01 DII (those DIIsthat have the nipple for activating the diff lock, just no controls) the same as the DI t-case?

Again, thanks...

I believe that all Disco's with a automatic use the same t-case up until the 4.6L engine,I think that they use a different transmission and thus a different t-case.
I do not know what else is needed to add it to the interior of your trk. I do not know if your hi-lo shifter will allow hi-lo-lock with out any other mods, but I am sure that someone will pipe up.
As far as a re-build comparied to used, I think that a re-build from a reputable place such as roverland would be just fine.

Here is another place that has good replacement parts.

03 and 04 t/case's will interchange and should be used along with the 04 shifter. The D1 shifters are really hard to covert to an 04 t/case.

He wants to add CDL to a '02 Mike. Which t-case would be better?

if your t-box has never been replace then you do have the diff lock shaft on it, 03 was the only year with out it. do not use a D1 t-box, will not work, different sensors. also, unless you rewire some stuff, temp sensors, a 04 will not work either. all you need is the linkage and a new shifter. the shaft youre looking for is at the front, right above, and towards the pass. side, of the F drive shaft, there is a 10 mm cut out on the bottem of it, and threads on top. it can be done, easily. you will need to reprogram your abs ecu for proper abs activation when diff lock is engaged.

A t/case from a 99, 2000 and the early production 01 will work with no changes needed on an 02, then buy either the D1 shifter, a solenoid shifter or a cable from an 04.
Make sure you have your front drive shaft rebuilt before wheeling if it hasn't been done yet and remember the spider gears in both diffs will only take so much of the extra traction before they fail.
