Default diff lock

Which years come with a diff lock d1 and d2 . Is it just a center or front and rear or what? I know the 03 dose not.
looking into getting a disco for a trail rig. If it is shorter to list the years that don't have one that is just as cool
thanks in advance.

All DIs come with a CDL (thats 94 to mid 99). DIIs the only year I'm positive does is 04, and I think 00 and 01? Maybe? Regardless you would probably want to consider avoiding 03s because of the oil pump failure (do a search for it, there's plenty of info on it)

The diff lock is just the center diff in all models, but it's easy to change out your front and rear diffs for locking diffs.

2000 and 2001 D2s have the CDL but no handle to engage it. A shifter from a D1 or an 04 would have to be installed to activate the CDL. For a trail rig go with a D1. Little smaller, a lot simpler and had the CDL ready to go.

On the 01's, it was only the early production 01's.
You can rebuild an 02 pretty cheaply, stay away from the 03's and of course the 04's which were the best of the bunch.
I would suggest a 99 or 2000 and build from there.

You can go to, http://www.roverlandparts.com/transfercaseshifters.aspx and buy either the old D1 ****er and linkage or the newer 04 cable style.

Since LR no longer makes the '04 linkage, Ashcroft (yes, the same UK company that does the transmissions and axles) is about to release their own version to engage the CDL in about 2 weeks. I have not seen pics, so I don't know how it works. D2's 1999-2001 (mid -year) have the CDL in the t-case. If you need to engage it before getting the linkage, crawl underneath with a 10mm wrench. Wear long sleeves cause of the heat and turn the nipple about 45*.

Here is Ashcroft's site. I checked there, but haven't seen anything yet about their CDL, just the '04. I heard about it on DWeb from someone that works at Ashcroft. Here's a link to some pics of my install. UrbanPanzer has a great write-up, which I used for my install. Go to Discovery2.co.uk. The CDL is not a diff locker like an ARB or Detroit. It locks the center diff (the t-case) so there is equal torque output to the front and rear axles. If a tire is spinning (while the CDL is locked) on both the front and rear axles you'll be stuck. If the CDL is unlocked you only need one tire spinning to get stuck. Having lockers on each axle (ARB) gives you the option to drive all 4 wheels, regarless of the traction each has.
