Default Different AT on NAS 03-04...

Hi all,
Was just reading through the RAVE docs and found the following:

On NAS market vehicles from 03 model year, the ZF 4HP24 transmission unit is introduced for use with the 4.6 litre V8 engine. This transmission is required to accomodate the increased power output of the larger engine. The ZF 4HP22 transmission remains in use on vehicles with Td5 and 4.0 litre V8 engines.

Both transmission units are of similar construction, with the ZF 4HP24 unit being 15 mm longer than the 4HP22 unit to accomodate a larger fluid pump. The operation of both transmission units is the same.

My DII is a 2000 but I have the larger 4.6L (a 2004) engine. Does anybody thing that could cause problems? I would say that the vehicle will be used more than average and under tougher conditions (think Camel Trophy for newbies).

Thanks!

Dont worry about it, just keep the fluid and filter changed and when/if the tranny goes south then replace it with another one.
You'll be fine.

That is what I hoped the answer would be. Hope the AT does not go anytime soon though! The Zf's seem to be pretty strong according to the posts I have read... With 112K on it, I should be able to get another 90K out of it? Or do you think the stronger engine will reduce that?

I think youll get another 100k out of her no problem.
Now if your pulling stumps out of the ground every day of the week thats another story.

Because of it's mileage, do a drain and fill every 15,000 to 20,000 miles instead of every 30,000 and you will get nany miles from it.

Yeah, doing that today. You told me last weekend to drain and fill 3 times driving about 20 minutes in between. Problem is (and I just posted that as well) that I don't have the right size tools and can't find anywhere what size I should go and buy....

Oh well... Just waiting for someone to reply now...

By the way, the induction cleaning went well. I drained and refilled the diffs yesterday. Put in Valvoline 75W-90. Have the same stuff for the transfer case. I did see one of the seals on the front driveshaft was completely busted, so I am going to order the Tom Woods today. They have different ones, any suggestions? I will be putting the OME suspension on in a few months too... Per your suggestion I will have the old shaft rebuilt (or maybe give it a shot myself) and have it as a spare.

Cheers!
