Default Disco 1 brake question

so just replaced the front pads on my rover, since all signs pointed to them needing to be done (less braking power, brake dust build up on front wheels and as of this week brake light flickering on and off on the dash). I was really happy to see how easy the brakes were to do on the front, but I have a major concern, my old pads appear to half about half there life left!!! is this normal or is something else going on? I didn't think my rears needed to be done since there is no dust on the back wheels but now I am wondering.

How long have you had the truck? Midas/Autozone pads start getting really dirty halfway through.

Check the rotors to see how much of a lip you have. They don't take much wear, and can't be truned.

And yes, the pads are super easy, but the rotors are a nightmare

Dust, is not an indicator of brake pads wear level.
You need to look at each pad, if the brake material is thinner then tghe backing plate, it is time to replace them.
Who's brake pads, by brand, are you using to cause all the beake dust?

Didint find Rotors or bearings to be difficult at all. Crappy pads make dust. A big lip means new rotors IMHO. My Disco is still good at 50k. The defender had to have rotors at 80k.

I thought the same thing after I changed mine! But I did get better breaking and the squeak is gone and that's the only proof I have that I did any thing. LOL

not sure what pads were on there (bought truck in December) but the new pads are the cheaper ones from AB delphi I think. anyways the rotors look good they are smooth from top to bottom with no lip at all. the dust just started a couple weeks ago and the brake light started flickering on and off about 4 days ago. noticed about the same time as the dust started to show up that the brakes felt softer? (truck wouldn't stop as quick as before, or I would have to press them harder)

4 questions:
1. What does "truned" mean?
I will be replacing my front rotors soon.
2. What are the specs of the front rotors and does it have to be genuine LR rotors or are there other good brands too?
3 Do I really need to replace the hubs?
4. Do I need to bleed the brakes if I change the rotors?
Thanks

check your brake fluid. the only reason for the brake light to come on in that truck is low level. with half the pad left, the level should not be low, look at the rubber brake lines and around the master cylender, see if you see anything wet, if so, theres a good chance youre leaking brake fluid which will explain the weak pedal
