Man Just checking around for friend who really wants an old Defender... Just crazy numbers they are. Some being double $$ what a brand new 2020 Defender costs... Good God! But Man even the 2004 Disco II also have jumped from a couple years ago i was finding them for $5-7,000.. Now? minimum i'm seeing them going for like $12K - $25K holly $%^&! So i guess getting my two 2004 Disco II for under $2000 was a steal and well worth that initial investment. I think i just struck Bitcoin!
You can still find them for under $2k but man you better be quick to jump on them if they are rust free and not total basket cases. I'm not upset that it would appear we to actually stand to make money on a vehicle (upgrades included in a lot of instances and recoup most maintenance costs) which is so rare with cars.
Prices have definitely gone through the roof from 2-3 years ago. I'm seeing double the asking prices for Discos in my area to just a couple years prior. I know a lot of people joke about a "COVID tax" on used cars/trucks right now, especially on any 4x4 SUV, but Discos seem to be especially affected.
Well my wife just said "well... I guess you were right to buy them." A Year ago she wanted me to sell at least one of them. She was like "Do you really need two project vehicles? "All this money you need to restore two trucks..." But i told her they will be worth something someday...They are Classic I told her.
Yeah I bought two. A Silver 04' SE7 for $950 and NY truck with tail frame rust which needs to be fully cut out and replaced. And the usual Head gasket which i'm just going to pull it & rebuild the engine. The second is Gray 04' SE that i bought for $850 which was a Texas / Florida truck. Runs, has a no rust frame & the body is in good shape. I just have the Rebuilt title from Florida now has to be inspected here in NY. But i don't anticipate and real issues with that. So all in all i think i have two good investments here.
A lot of D2s were cheap enough to simply scrap or part out. The relative scarcity is running up prices. Like some in this thread, a lot of "second discos" out there limiting numbers more.
As I mentioned above in the thread, prices have gone way up in my area. My recent '04 purchase was out of state in a sunny place, but I was able to find my '03 in the local area for a decent price. It needed a lot of work, and still has more to go, but it's a labor of love and fun...and maybe some frustration, right?
I've noticed over the past few years...Dll's are getting hard to find. Just did a quick search, market place and craigslist...only one within 100 miles (10K).
