Default Disco ll front differential

Will the front differential for a 2004 Disco fit a 2000 Disco? I recently replaced the center carrier section but the replacement carier whines terribly. Have now located a complete 2004 front differential but ubcertain if it is compatible with my 2000 Discovery. Thanks

I would have thought the same, but Discovery Front Differentials shows two part numbers, 99-02 and 03-04.

Drop your front drive shaft and see if the noise goes away, might be a t/case and or front drive shaft noise.

Thanks for the advice. Originally I had a drive train vibration and while inspecting found alot of metal on the front differential magnet. Pulled the carrier and found the carrier in a bad state. Immediately after installing a replacement used carrier I had a whining noise. That is why I assumed it was a carrier issue. Will check the drive shaft. Thanks again.

It SHOULD list another part number: TBB000250 for the 4 pinion diffs that RoverMasterTech is talking about. The online version is Russia does, but oddly enough it doesn't show the VIN breakdown.... probably because, I think, in the UK and ROW you could still get a 4.0L engine.
