Default Discovery 2 TD5 Auto possible stall.

Hello,
I’m after a little help with my Discovery 2 TD5 2002 Auto…
Basically it just stopped at a set of traffic lights while idling and would not attempt to start almost just clicked like the engine is jammed.
Recovery chap came out and initially put it down as a snapped timing chain, however I popped the lid off today and the chain and guides etc are all intact but I can’t turn the engine over by hand at the crank. All I had a day before was a whining noise just like a knackered power steering pump no lights or anything. So I don’t know where to go from here.. if anyone has heard or experienced anything like this please let me know.
cheers.
Andy

If the starter pinion/drive gear got stuck/bound with flywheel (didn't disengage after starting engine)...that could keep the engine from rotating. Maybe the noise you heard the day before was the pinion gear staying ingaged with flywheel?

This is the only thing l can think of, since you don't mention getting any warning lights (low oil pressure, etc) or check engine lights.

Thanks for taking the time to reply, I will remove the starter in the morning and also the sump to confirm the oil pump. But I don’t recall any lights on the dash. I was told if the torque converter blew I’d still be able to turn over the engine. But I’ll check and go from there.
cheers.
