Default Discovery II 2002 Engine Fan Issue

Not sure if this is a Common Problem but I just can't stand the Fan Noise on this Truck..
Let me be more specific..
I got a LR Disco II 2002, while driving after 30 minutes or so the Engine Fan gets loud..
Don't get me wrong the car runs fine and I got a Buddy who works at the Land Rover Dealership swears it there is nothing wrong with it..
He says it's common..Is there anything I can do to reduce the Fan noise?
Any suggestions?

Are you talking about your electrical fan or the mechanical, belt driven fan?

To be honest not sure which fan it is but let's say it is one of the 3 choices you mentioned, any solution or suggestion or Idea?

Your buddy is right. A roaring noise?
Depending on where you live and how you drive.
It sounds like your fan clutch is kicking in due to heat.
Stop and go in town or You live some place hot or both.

Most likely it is you belt driven fan, might want to check and make sure the hub/clutch is no failing. The electric fan comes on with the a/c on a hot day od as a back up for the engine when it is runnuing hot.
I have driven many D2's and have never heard any excess fan noise unless the hub is going bad or one of the fan blades is cracked.
The other thought would be your engine temp. Where does you temp guage needle point? At normal speed do you hear it or does the temp guage go up and then you hear it?

I'm also having a similar problem. There's a humming noise coming from under my hood. At first it sounded like a pulley was going bad, but tonight I pulled my boat out of the water and left my 99 D2 running with the air on high for about 30-45 min. when I got back in it was running hot. I left the boat ramp and the temp went back to norm, and when I got home the fan clutch seemed to free spin when I turned the fan with my hand. Does anybody know how to check the fan clutch? There's about 100k on my truck. Any feedback would be GREATLY appreciated.. Thanks, Jim FL

Jim,
2 thoughts, 99 D2's had a recall on the pulley and tensioners for noise problems that happen just before they fail, hhave them replaced if they haven't been. Also at 100K, your fan hub is most likely shot, how much resistance is in the fanif you try to turn it when it is cold, wiggle the fan, does the hub move?

Mike, not sure if you're referring to my situation but mine is 2002 Model Disco..Anyhow I might have to take it to the dealer to see what they say..But in one hand I heard from other people who dealt with dealerships and I dealt with them as well that most of the time they do half baked jobs and charge boatload of $$$..So I usually take it to the bodyshop I deal with..I mean who knows..

If you don't want to go to a dealer find a small Rover shop and have them check it out. If you are concerned about the quality of the dealer, I hate to think of the help you will get at a body shop. It is your truck, you need to be responsible for finding a good mechanic with a long back ground with Rovers.
