Discovery II Cracked Block, what should I do?
My Discovery II with 240,000 miles has a very slight crack thru one of the cylinder sleeves. It's enough of a crack to be taken off the road. It would blow white steam out of the exhaust and over pressurize the cooling system, I had cooling hoses blow off and it even put a hole in the radiator.
Do you guys think I should take my chance with another engine, I have seen them go for about $1200 with about 100,000 miles. I'm not interested in putting in a new short block for $4000. I would rather swap in a Ls1 for that kinda money. I do have a lot of fabricating tools so I could do it all myself. Or I might just sell it as is, if anyone wants it let me know.

You are looking at $1000 MAX if you sell it as is.
Sell the wheels with the new tires, $1000.
Sell the winch to me for $200.
Remove the trans if still good, $250, diffs, $50/ea.
T-case, $150, winch bumper...you're going to make more money parting it out.
You could drop a used motor into it, your block is no good so it cant be rebuilt unless someone thinks they can weld it.
It all really depends on what the truck is worth to you, what shape is it in overall?
Can you replace it for less than you can fix it?
If you buy another whats it going to cost to get it into the same shape as yours is now?

With that many miles on the Disco, unless you have taken fantastic care of it i'd be ready to find another for my daily driver(assuming it is your daily driver). Maybe a 2004 DII. I wouldnt sell it though. I'd keep it and get it running later to make a weekend toy out of it. Then have a rover you don't care to scratch up and get dirty on the weekends.
